Die Genossenschaft bezweckt eine unabhängige Produktion von Energie aus einheimischen Energiequellen. Damit soll eine eigenständige Energieversorgung für den Kanton Obwalden sichergestellt werden nach dem Motto: Aus Obwalden für Obwalden. Die Genossenschaft ist gemeinnützig ausgerichtet. Die Genossenschaft ist politisch und konfessionell neutral.
