## Purpose

Das UZB dient der kantonalen, regionalen und überregionalen zahnmedizinischen Versorgung. Es erfüllt die Aufgaben der im Interesse der öffentlichen Gesundheit liegenden sozialen Zahnpflege gemäss dem Gesundheitsgesetz (GesG) vom 21. September 2011. Es gewährleistet insbesondere die Behandlung von wirtschaftlich schwächer gestellten Personen mit Wohnsitz im Kanton Basel-Stadt. Es erbringt bedarfsgerecht gemeinwirtschaftliche Leistungen gemäss Leistungsvereinbarung mit dem Kanton. Es sorgt für die Lehre und Forschung im Rahmen der Leistungsvereinbarung mit Hochschulen sowie für die Weiter- und Fortbildung im Bereich der Zahnmedizin.
