## Purpose

Der Zweck der Stiftung ist die Unterstützung gemeinnütziger (besonders wohltätiger), wissenschaftlicher und künstlerischer Institutionen und Bestrebungen in der Schweiz. Über die Verwendung im einzelnen soll die Verwaltungskommission entscheiden. Unter den gemeinnützigen Werken sollen vor allem solche zur Unterstützung von Armen und Kranken und zum Schutze der Jugend Berücksichtigung finden. Unter den Verwendungen für wissenschaftliche Zwecke möchte ich einbegreifen: die Unterstützung der Witwen- und Waisenkasse der Professoren am Eidgenössischen Polytechnikum und an der Universität Zürich, sowie an den kantonalen Schulen in Zürich, Winterthur und Frauenfeld; unter den zu fördernden Bestrebungen für künstlerische Zwecke sind sowohl solche auf dem Gebiete der Literatur und der darstellenden Künste wie der Musik zur verstehen. Ausdrücklich verfüge ich, dass Politik und Religion bei der Vertretung der Unterstützungen keine Rolle spielen dürfen.
