## Purpose

Die Stiftung bezweckt die Finanzierung, Unterstützung, Planung und Durchführung von Massnahmen im In- und Ausland, mit denen Treibhausgasemissionen, insbesondere CO2, als Folge des Verbrauchs von fossilen Energieträgern nachweisbar reduziert werden. Die Stiftung stellt - gestützt auf Art. 3 und 4 CO2-Gesetz - einen freiwilligen Beitrag der Schweizer Wirtschaft dar, wodurch die im CO2-Gesetz und im Kyoto-Protokoll gesetzten Klimaschutzziele erreicht werden sollen, damit auf die Einführung einer CO2-Abgabe im Treibstoffbereich verzichtet werden kann. Die Aufgabe der Stiftung besteht insbesondere darin, sowohl im In- wie auch im Ausland über direkte Projektfinanzierungen, Beteiligung an Dritt-Institutionen oder im Rahmen internationaler Emissionshandelssysteme in treibhausgasmindernde Massnahmen zu investieren, namentlich im Brenn- und Treibstoffbereich, mit dem Ziel, die daraus resultierenden, nach anerkannten Grundsätzen ermittelten Emissionsminderungen an die im CO2-Gesetz festgehaltenen CO2-Emissionsreduktions-Ziele anzurechnen. Die Stiftung arbeitet im Inlandbereich namentlich mit der Energie-Agentur der Wirtschaft (EnAW) zusammen.
