Die SMP bezweckt insbesondere: a) Einen Erlös aus der Milchproduktion zu erzielen, der unter Berücksichtigung der Direktzahlungen zu einem Arbeitsverdienst führt, der mit jenem anderer Erwerbstätiger vergleichbar ist; b) Rahmenbedingungen zu erarbeiten zur Anpassung der Produktion und des Angebotes an die Erfordernisse des Marktes in Zusammenarbeit mit anderen Organisationen der Branche; c) grösstmögliche Transparenz über den Markt und die Preise zu schaffen; d) die Vertretung von gemeinsamen Anliegen und solchen von Produzentengruppen in den Organisationen der Milch- und Fleischbranche; e) die Leistungs- und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit der schweizerischen Milchwirtschaft zu stärken und die Milchverwertung und Marktleistungen zu optimieren; f) die schweizerische Milchproduktion nach den Bedürfnissen der Konsumentinnen und Konsumenten auszurichten sowie die Qualität und den Absatz von schweizerischen Milchprodukten zu erhalten und zu fördern durch ein starkes Basismarketing; g) ihre Mitglieder sowie alle Schweizer Milchproduzenten sachbezogen zu informieren; h) die Kommunikation mit der Öffentlichkeit sicherzustellen und dabei insbesondere den Wert der Schweizer Milch und Milchproduktion zu erklären; i) die Aus- und Weiterbildung der Milchproduzenten zu fördern; k) ihren Mitgliedern und den Schweizer Milchproduzenten Dienstleistungen zu erbringen Die SMP vertritt die Interessen der Milchproduzenten für die Rind- und Kalbfleischproduktion direkt oder über eine andere Organisation.
