## Purpose

Die COLON Stiftung bezweckt die Unterstützung von Forschung mit dem Ziel der Prävention von Darmkrebs durch Kenntnis der molekulargenetischen Mechanismen und deren Ursachen, die zur Entstehung von Darmkrebs führen sowie die Förderung und/oder Finanzierung von Projekten, welche früheste pathophysiologische Veränderungen bei der Entstehung von Darmkrebs untersuchen und identifizieren. In diesem Zusammenhang bezweckt die Stiftung auch die Erforschung der molekularbiologischen Altersprozesse (Aging) der Darmschleimhaut. Ferner bezweckt die Stiftung die Entwicklung von molekulargenetischen Methoden zum Nachweis früher Krebs-spezifischer Veränderungen als Mittel zur Früherkennung und Prävention von Darmkrebs und in ausgewählten Situationen die Erforschung ähnlicher molekularbiologischer Prozesse bei anderen gastrointestinalen Tumoren.
