## Purpose

Zweck von WAN-IFRA ist es, die in der Präambel genannten Ziele durch geeignete Aktivitäten zu erfüllen. Das Ziel von WAN-IFRA ist die Unterstützung der Zeitungen und der gesamten Zeitungsbranche sowie deren technischer Zulieferer und Dienstleister. Dies umfasst insbesondere folgende Aufgaben: a) die Pressefreiheit und die wirtschaftliche Unabhängigkeit der Zeitungen, die hierfür eine wesentliche Voraussetzung ist, zu verteidigen und zu fördern, b) die grundlegende Rolle der Zeitungen und der gesamten Zeitungsbranche für die Gesellschaft und den Aufbau und die Wahrung der Demokratie zu fördern, c) die journalistische Qualität zu verbessern und einen ethischen Journalismus zu fördern, d) der Branche Fachwissen und Research-Ergebnisse in den Bereichen Publikationsstrategie, Redaktion, Anzeigen/Werbung, Marketing, Technologie, Produktion und Vertrieb zur Verfügung zu stellen, e) als weltweites Zentrum für branchenrelevante Forschung und Anwendung sowie als Plattform für den Austausch von Ideen, Informationen und Erfahrungen zwischen allen Beteiligten der Zeitungsbranche zu dienen, f) die internationale Zusammenarbeit zu unterstützen, um die Kultur des Zeitungslesens durch die Etablierung und Umsetzung von Programmen im Bereich “Junge Leser“ und “Zeitung in der Schule“ zu fördern, g) Führungskräften der Zeitungsbranche die Möglichkeit zum Austausch von Ideen und Informationen rund um die Herausgabe von Zeitungen zu geben, h) die Zeitungen und die Zeitungsbranche in allen internationalen Diskussionen über Medienthemen zu vertreten, i) den freien Vertrieb von Presseerzeugnissen weltweit und die Entwicklung eines fairen und effizienten Handels mit Presseerzeugnissen zu fördern.
