Er koordiniert und vertritt die fachlichen und politischen Interessen seiner Mitglieder auf gesamtschweizerischer Ebene und wirkt auf die Gestaltung der unternehmerischen und fachlichen Rahmenbedingungen der Branchen hin. Er pflegt den Kontakt zu Organisationen mit ähnlichen Zielsetzungen im In- und Ausland. Er kann Beteiligungen und Partnerschaften dort eingehen, wo diese einen direkten Nutzen für die Mitglieder und seinen sozialen Auftrag stiften.
